Post Office and Parish, 7 m from Bandon, 4m from Innishannon.  The parish has a population of 1,116.  The land is generally good, and the scenery picturesque and interesting, particularly in the vicinity of the ruined castle of Kilgobbin, a fortress of the MacCarthy-Reaghs, and the glens near the village of Ballinadee.  The river Bandon runs by the parish.  The salmon fishing here gives employment to about twenty boats, during the season.  Brick manufacture extensively carried out.  Slate quarries, but not at present worked.  Road from Ballinadee to Ballinspittal 3.5m.
